Get information you need when deciding on the best dog bed for your dog.

Dogs are very important members of our family, our special companions that give us unconditional love and affection.  Because we want only the best for our pets, it is our responsibility to provide them with a home, food, security and warmth.  Just like us, dogs love to be comfortable especially when they sleep.  We would never consider making them sleep on the floor.  Furnishing your pet its own bed gives your dog a warm, comfortable place to rest or sleep.  There are an amazing number of dog beds on the market today.  They go from very basic, inexpensive beds to designer beds costing a lot of money.  Dog beds range in size from ones that fit a tiny Chihuahua to huge beds for Great Danes.  Years ago, dog beds were available in only four sizes, small to extra large, and made for comfort and easy cleaning.  Today that is certainly no longer the case, as there is an amazing array of options available in dog beds.

Before you purchase a dog bed you should decide where you are going to place it.  Some people put the dog bed in the family or living room so their pet is close to the family but does not lie on the sofa.  Other owners prefer the pet’s bed in their bedroom so the dog is close but not sharing or hogging their bed.

If you have a puppy remember it will not be tiny for very long.  When shopping for a dog bed, you need to consider this and buy one that your pet will fit into when it is fully grown.  With a small breed of dog, the puppies usually double in size and finish growing by the time they are around a year old.  This gives you an idea of the size of bed you need when your puppy is fully-grown.  Whether you purchase an inexpensive dog bed or a very costly one, always examine it closely, as a well made bed will last longer and give your dog better support.

Just like their owners, older dogs sometimes suffer from arthritis, sore joints, hip problems and other painful conditions.  In order for them to be comfortable, there are orthopedic dog beds available that address these problems.  Some mattresses for the orthopedic beds are coil spring and others made from memory foam.  Often, these beds are available with a heating device, which helps make a dog more comfortable while they rest or sleep.  Giving our loyal companions a warm bed, that supports their aging body, makes their senior years more comfortable.

If your pet or pets are outside much of the time, they require a water repellent and tough indoor/outdoor dog bed, which protects them from the elements.  You need to buy an insulated quality indoor/outdoor bed to protect your dog from both the bitter cold and heat.  Buy one treated to resist fungus, mold and other hazards that could be unhealthy for your pet.  The dog’s bed will require cleaning from time to time, so you want one that is easy to clean, such as machine washable.
